The first thing I remember is the way the Metekhi Church sits above the river—kind of quietly watching everything. Our guide, Giorgi, started us there. He pointed out the patterned balconies across the water, all those bright colors stacked up like someone couldn’t decide on just one. We wandered through cobbled streets that felt almost too narrow for cars (but somehow they fit). There was this smell—sort of sweet bread from a bakery we passed, mixed with something mineral in the air. Maybe it was just old stone after rain.

I didn’t expect to be so taken by the Holy Trinity Cathedral. It’s massive—like it doesn’t quite fit in your field of vision when you look up. Giorgi told us it’s the tallest church in Georgia at 101 meters. We walked around quietly for a bit; even people who weren’t religious seemed to slow down inside. After that, he drove us out to see The Chronicle of Georgia—those pillars are wild, black stone against grey sky and all these carved faces staring down. I tried to take a photo but it never really gets the scale right.

The Tbilisi Aerial Tramway was honestly more fun than I thought it’d be. You get these quick flashes of rooftops and then suddenly you’re above everything—the Mtkvari river curling through town, Narikala Fortress on its hilltop. The cable car only takes a couple minutes but you see so much. At Narikala Fortress itself, we climbed up (not gracefully) and just stood there for a while. Windy up top; my friend lost her hat and some kids chased after it laughing.

We ended up at Dry Bridge market where locals lay out old cameras, Soviet coins, painted dishes—stuff that feels like it has stories stuck to it. There was an old man selling postcards who winked when I tried to bargain in broken Georgian (didn’t work). By then I was tired but didn’t really want to leave yet—you know that feeling? Like if you stay another hour maybe you’ll figure out what makes a city tick.
