The experience
Five days means you can reach places most Georgia tours skip. The first day takes you from Tbilisi to Roshka village, where a nearly three-hour hike brings you to Abudelauri lakes: three separate alpine pools in a landscape with poor roads and few other visitors. You stay overnight in a guesthouse in Roshka, Korsha or Gudani, all small settlements deep in Khevsureti.
Day two stays in the region. You hike via Datvijvari pass to Shatili, then to Mutso, where a half-hour walk reaches a fortress, and on to Ardoti: a very remote village where locals sell high-quality honey and you get a sense of how few outsiders make it this far. Day three is a long drive south through Ananuri Fortress and the Friendship Monument before you reach Kazbegi and Mount Kazbegi itself, the 5,000-meter peak that dominates the landscape. No hike that day. The drive is the work. Days four and five are based in Kazbegi: a moderate two-hour hike through Juta gorge (often called Georgian Dolomites for the rock formations), and an easy two-hour walk up to Gergeti Trinity Church on the final morning before the drive back to Tbilisi.
An air-conditioned SUV handles all transport, and your guide speaks English and has long-term tourism experience. Guesthouses and hotels are included depending on which option you choose at checkout. The tour is private, so the pace and stops adjust to your group.
What’s included
- Air-conditioned SUV transport throughout the five days.
- professional English-speaking guide with long-term tourism experience.
- overnight accommodation in guesthouses in Khevsureti and hotels or guesthouses in Kazbegi (the option you choose at checkout determines which).

Is this one for you?Choose this tour if you want to spend two full days in one of Georgia's least-visited mountain regions before moving to the more popular Kazbegi area. The five-day length is what makes the remote Khevsureti portion possible. Shorter tours skip it entirely for the drive straight to Kazbegi.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, German and Russian.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (under 14).
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
How difficult are the hikes on this tour?
The hikes range from easy to moderate. The walk to Abudelauri lakes takes nearly three hours one way and reaches alpine elevation, so it demands steady fitness; the Juta gorge hike is moderate and takes two hours one way; the final hike to Gergeti Trinity Church is easy and takes two hours. Day three has no hiking, only driving.
What is Khevsureti like compared to Kazbegi?
Khevsureti is a very remote mountain region with poor roads, few settlements and minimal tourism infrastructure. You stay in small guesthouses and see villages like Shatili, Mutso and Ardoti where locals still live traditionally. Kazbegi is Georgia's number one destination, built around Mount Kazbegi's views and more developed for visitors, with hotels and established hiking routes like Juta gorge.
Can I see all three Abudelauri lakes in one hike?
Yes, if your fitness level allows it. The hike to all three lakes takes nearly three hours one way from Roshka village, and your guide will assess whether the group can reach them all or should turn back earlier.
What happens on the long drive from Shatili to Kazbegi?
You cross Datvijvari pass and stop at Ananuri Fortress and the Friendship Monument before arriving in Kazbegi in the evening. It is a long day of driving with no hiking, so you rest at your hotel and enjoy the views of Mount Kazbegi.
Do I need to arrange my own transport to and from Tbilisi?
No. The SUV and guide pick you up in Tbilisi on day one and drop you at a location of your choice on day five, so transport is included in the tour.
