Swim with stingrays and reef sharks in Bora Bora's lagoon, then eat lunch floating in the middle of it.

Snorkel Bora Bora's lagoon on a private boat with a live guide, spending six hours in the water and on deck. You'll swim alongside stingrays and reef sharks in the turquoise shallows, then sit down to a grilled lunch of fish, shrimp and island vegetables served onboard. The guide speaks English or French and handles all pickup. Snorkeling gear and towels are provided.

The experience

You arrive at the boat and the guide takes you straight into the lagoon. The water is clear enough to see the bottom, and the stingrays and reef sharks move through it like they own the place, because they do. You're in a private boat, so there's no crowd, no schedule except the one your guide sets, and no reason to rush. The snorkeling gear fits, the fins work, and you're in.

Once you've had enough of the water, lunch appears on deck: grilled fish and shrimp skewers, marinated fish in coconut milk, rice, seasonal vegetables, tropical fruit. Soft drinks, local beer and champagne come with it. You eat floating in the middle of the lagoon, with the island rising up around you and the water still close enough to jump back into. The guide shares stories about Polynesian culture while you eat, and the boat stays anchored or drifts slowly depending on what you want.

The whole thing runs six hours. Pickup is included, and the guide speaks English or French. Towels are fresh, and if you want the barbecue cooked on a motu (one of the small islets scattered through the lagoon) your guide can arrange that instead of cooking on the boat.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English and French.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (13 to 17 years); Infant (under 13): free.

What are the stingrays and sharks like when you're in the water with them?

Stingrays and reef sharks both live in Bora Bora's lagoon year-round and are accustomed to snorkelers. The stingrays are graceful and curious. The reef sharks are small and not aggressive. Both move through the shallow water naturally, and your guide will position you where you can see them without chasing them.

Can you snorkel if you've never done it before?

Yes. The snorkeling gear is adjustable, and the lagoon water is shallow and calm. The guide is with you the whole time and can show you how to use the equipment. The activity suits all fitness levels.

What's included in the lunch, and are there options for dietary needs?

Lunch includes grilled fish and shrimp skewers, meat skewers, fresh fish marinated in coconut milk, rice, seasonal island vegetables and tropical fruit. Beverages are soft drinks, local beer and champagne. Speak with your guide about dietary needs when you book. The menu is prepared fresh on the boat.

How long is the boat ride to the snorkeling spot?

The experience runs six hours total from pickup to return. Most of that time is spent in and around the lagoon itself. The boat doesn't travel far from shore since Bora Bora's lagoon is the destination.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The lagoon is sheltered by the outer reef, so conditions are usually calm. If weather makes snorkeling unsafe on the day of your booking, your guide will reschedule or discuss options with you.
