The Experience

I’ll admit, I was nervous about the Segway thing at first. My balance isn’t exactly Olympic-level, but our guide Camille just grinned and said, “Don’t worry, you’ll get it in two minutes.” She was right — after a couple wobbly circles near Les Invalides (and one accidental beep), I started feeling that weird mix of freedom and slight embarrassment only a Segway can give you. There’s something about rolling along the Seine with wind in your face and Parisians barely glancing up from their cigarettes that makes you realize how little anyone cares if you look silly.

We zipped past the gold dome of Les Invalides — Camille told us Napoleon is buried there but honestly I was more distracted by the smell of fresh bread drifting from somewhere nearby. The Pont Alexandre III was next, all those ornate lamps and statues catching the morning light. I tried to pronounce “Petit Palais” properly (Li laughed when I tried to say it in Mandarin — probably butchered it) and we stopped for photos. It’s funny how much ground you cover on a Segway; we’d only been out maybe half an hour and already seen more than I did walking all day yesterday.

The highlight for me was Place de la Concorde — not because of its history (though Camille had stories about guillotines and revolution that made me shiver), but because the square felt alive: taxis honking, someone playing accordion somewhere faintly, pigeons everywhere. We cruised up towards the Champs-Élysées, dodging tourists and locals alike, then finally rolled under the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. Everyone took turns snapping awkward group selfies. The whole thing lasted about two hours but it felt both longer and shorter at once — time does that when you’re actually having fun instead of just ticking off sights.

I still think about that last stretch along the riverbank — sun on my face, hands tingling from steering too tight. If you’re thinking about a Segway tour in Paris, just do it. Even if you look ridiculous (you will), nobody minds here.

What’s included

Your day includes use of a Segway with helmet plus rain coats or warm gear if needed; guided by a local who shares stories as you roll past Paris icons like Les Invalides and Grand Palais—all within a relaxed small group setting so you can actually hear each other laugh along the way.
