The experience
You fly from Addis Ababa to Jinka on the morning of day one, where your local guide meets you and drives south to Turmi. The route passes Key Afer, a weekly market held on Tuesdays where Banna, Ari, Hamer, and Tsemay traders gather. If your dates align, you'll see the market in full swing. By late afternoon you reach a traditional Hamer village to learn how they live. That night you stay in Turmi.
Day two splits between two ceremonies. In the morning you drive to the Karo tribe, who live on a ridge overlooking the Omo River and are known for their intricate body painting and scarification. After lunch back in Turmi, you have the chance to attend a Hamer bull-jumping ceremony in the afternoon: a coming-of-age ritual where young men jump over cattle to mark their passage to adulthood (the ceremony runs on local schedules, so attendance depends on timing). On the way to Jinka that evening, you stop at Dimeka market on Thursdays, where Hamer and neighboring tribes trade livestock and handmade goods. You overnight in Jinka.
Day three starts before dawn. You drive into Mago National Park to visit the Mursi tribe, recognized by their distinctive lip plates and their isolation from outside contact. After the visit, you return to Jinka Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. The tour ends when you land.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What languages do the eight tribes in the Omo Valley speak?
Each of the eight tribes speaks its own language. The tour visits Hamer, Karo, Mursi, Banna, Ari, and Tsemay communities, and your English-speaking guide interprets during village visits and at markets so you can understand what you're seeing and ask questions.
Can I attend the Hamer bull-jumping ceremony, or is it not guaranteed?
The Hamer bull-jumping ceremony is included in the itinerary on day two, but attendance depends on local schedules and availability. Your guide will confirm whether the ceremony is happening during your visit and arrange attendance if it is.
What happens if my travel dates don't fall on a Tuesday or Thursday when the markets are held?
Key Afer market runs every Tuesday and Dimeka market every Thursday. If your dates don't align with these days, you'll visit alternative markets in the region instead, though the specific market may differ from the main weekly gatherings.
Do I need a visa to enter Ethiopia, and does the tour help with that?
Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Check with the Ethiopian embassy in your country before booking. The tour operator does not arrange visas, but your guide will meet you at Jinka Airport after you arrive on your own flights from Addis Ababa.
Is the drive from Addis Ababa to Jinka included, or do I book my own flight?
Your flight from Addis Ababa to Jinka on day one and your return flight on day three are included in the tour. The operator arranges your transfer to Addis Ababa Bole International Airport on the morning of day one. You book your own international flights to and from Ethiopia.
