Three hours of axes, bows and Scandinavian strategy games

The Viking Experience is a three-hour activity combining axe throwing, archery and four traditional Nordic Games in Herefordshire's outdoor setting, with all equipment supplied and a live English guide leading groups from age 14 up. The variety (an hour each of throwing, aiming and competitive play) keeps the pace moving and suits families, friends and groups equally.

The experience

You start with an hour of axe throwing, learning to hurl axes at wooden targets with power and precision. The instructors walk you through the technique, and each thud of the blade hitting wood is the feedback you're after. You compete against yourself and others to land the bullseye, building confidence with every throw.

Next comes an hour of archery. You'll handle a bow and arrow under expert guidance, focusing on form and aim. Whether you're picking up a bow for the first time or you've shot before, the session scales to where you are. The goal is hitting the target and enjoying the moment it lands.

The final hour is four Nordic Games: Molkky, Stige, Bullrings and Kubb. These Scandinavian games are straightforward to learn but built for strategy and friendly competition. You'll move between them, laughing and scheming with your group as you chase victory in each one. All equipment (axes, bows, arrows, game sets) is supplied, so you show up ready to play.
