The experience

The tour begins with pickup from your hotel, then heads to Giza Plateau. Your guide explains how the ancient Egyptians engineered the pyramids as you move through several stops: a panoramic viewpoint where all three Great Pyramids frame together for photographs, the Camel City where you can ride a camel, and the base of the pyramids themselves. You then enter the queen pyramid to experience the interior chambers and passages, followed by the Great Sphinx, which guards the plateau. Before leaving Giza, there is time for Egyptian papyrus shopping and lunch if you booked the all-inclusive option.

Saqqara is the second stop and often the most absorbing part of the day. This is where the Step Pyramid of King Djoser stands: the world's oldest stone pyramid, built 400 years before the Giza pyramids. You walk through nearby tombs of ancient Egyptian ministers and priests, where colorful wall carvings and hieroglyphic inscriptions still cover the walls, revealing details about daily life, beliefs and social structure. You also enter the Unas pyramid, the only one in the tour where hieroglyphics are visible inside the burial chamber itself.

Memphis, the first capital of Egypt, is the final stop. The main draw is the colossal statue of Ramses II, one of Egypt's greatest pharaohs, along with a detailed Sphinx statue that has survived largely intact. The tour concludes with a museum visit before your guide drops you at your destination. The whole experience is handled by an Egyptologist guide who speaks your language (English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian or others available), and all transport is by air-conditioned car with bottled water provided throughout.
