El Gouna Quad Bike Desert Safari: Sunset over Wadi Billy
Ride into the desert and watch the sunset from above a canyon millions of years old.
An El Gouna quad bike safari takes you through the Dry Canyon—the world's second-largest—on a 5-hour route with three stops: a Bedouin camp for hospitality and shisha, Wadi Billy to see coral and shell fossils from when the Red Sea covered this land, and a ridge 30 meters above the canyon to watch the sunset. Hotel pickup, professional guide in English, German or Arabic, dinner and air-conditioned transport back to the motor park are included; you'll train on the quad before the ride begins.
Step-by-step itinerary
Quad bike safari through Dry Canyon
- Pick up from El Gouna hotel
- Arrive at motor park
- Quad driving training and briefing
- Drive into desert through Dry Canyon
- Stop at Bedouin camp for drink and shisha
- Visit Wadi Billy canyon and see fossils
- Reach top of Wadi Billy for sunset view
- Ride quad bike back to motor park
The Experience
The day starts with pickup from your El Gouna hotel and a drive to the motor park, where a professional guide walks you through quad bike operation and safety before you ride. Once you're ready, the group heads into the desert on a 40-kilometer round trip through terrain that tells a geological story: millions of years ago, the Red Sea covered this entire canyon, leaving behind fossils of corals and shells embedded in the rock walls you'll see as you ride.
Three stops break up the ride. At a Bedouin camp, you'll sit with locals who serve hospitality drinks and shisha—a pause that shifts the pace from driving to sitting. Then comes Wadi Billy itself, the Dry Canyon where you walk among the fossil-lined walls and understand why this place matters: the canyon is the second-largest in the world, and the geological record is visible in the stone. The final stop takes you to the top of Wadi Billy, 30 meters above the canyon floor, where the view opens across the entire landscape and you wait for sunset.
After the sunset, you ride back through the desert to the motor park, then return to your hotel by air-conditioned minivan. Dinner is included in the package. The whole outing runs about 5 hours from pickup to drop-off, though exact timing depends on traffic and the time of day you depart.

Is this one for you?The tour runs 5 hours with active quad riding through desert terrain, so you'll need moderate fitness and comfort handling a bike over sand and rock. The minimum age is 18, and the ride isn't suitable for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnancy, or cardiovascular concerns—but if you're physically able and want to cover ground under your own power instead of watching from a vehicle, this is the way to see the canyon and the sunset.

What's the Dry Canyon and why does it have fossils?
Wadi Billy, also called the Dry Canyon, is the world's second-largest canyon and was covered by Red Sea water millions of years ago. When the sea receded, it left behind fossils of corals and shells embedded in the canyon walls, which you'll see up close during the tour.
Do I need quad bike experience to book this tour?
No experience is required. The guide trains you at the motor park before the ride begins, covering all the information and techniques you need to operate the quad safely through the desert.
What happens at the Bedouin camp stop?
At the Bedouin camp, you'll be served a hospitality drink and shisha by locals, giving you a chance to rest and experience the culture of the desert before continuing the ride.
Is the sunset viewpoint really 30 meters above the canyon?
Yes. The final stop takes you to the top of Wadi Billy, where you stand 30 meters above the canyon floor with a full view across the landscape—the best vantage point to watch the sunset.
