The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir comes first, about two hours inside the building where the golden mask of Tutankhamun sits behind glass and the mummy rooms hold pharaohs who've been dead for three thousand years. After that, lunch at a local restaurant—the buffet includes multiple proteins, rice, pasta and salads, though drinks aren't part of it. Then the Pyramids of Giza take up two and a half hours: the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the smaller ones of Khafre and Menkaure, and your guide explaining how they were built without the machinery we'd need now. The Great Sphinx gets forty-five minutes on its own, standing face to face with the thing you've only seen in photographs.
