The experience
You're picked up from your Hurghada hotel and driven to Cairo in an air-conditioned vehicle with your Egyptologist guide. The road takes most of the morning and early afternoon, with rest stops built in. Once you arrive at the Giza Plateau, your guide leads you across the grounds to stand before the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, and the Great Sphinx: the limestone guardian carved from a single ridge, watching over the plateau for more than 4,500 years. You'll stop at the panoramic viewpoint for the photograph that frames all three pyramids together, then visit the Valley Temple of Khafre, where your guide explains how the pyramids were built and why. Entry to the plateau and the Sphinx is included. If you want to go inside the Great Pyramid, that's optional and you pay on site.
After lunch at a local restaurant, an Egyptian open buffet, you head to the Grand Egyptian Museum, the world's largest archaeological museum, standing within sight of the Pyramids. Your guide walks you through the Grand Hall, where a colossal statue of Ramses II greets you, then up the Grand Staircase lined with royal statues and sarcophagi. Twelve main galleries trace Egypt's story from its earliest days through the New Kingdom. The Tutankhamun Galleries reunite all 5,000-plus treasures from the boy king's tomb for the first time since its discovery in 1922: the solid gold mask, the nested coffins, the gilded shrines, chariots and jewellery. The solar boat of King Khufu and the Hanging Obelisk complete the experience. Your guide has secured entry tickets in advance, so you walk past the queue at the door.
The return journey to Hurghada takes the late afternoon and evening. Your guide is a licensed Egyptologist and speaks English, French, German, Italian, Polish or Russian. State your preferred language when you book and the team will confirm it via WhatsApp. If you're staying in El Gouna or Sahl Hasheesh instead of Hurghada, a hotel transfer supplement is available at checkout.
