The experience

Twelve hours is enough to see Cairo's most famous sights without living there. You fly out of Hurghada in the morning, land in Cairo, and a shared transfer takes you straight to Giza. The Pyramids of Giza (built for the kings Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure during the 4th Dynasty around 2600 BC) still stand as the oldest of the seven ancient wonders. Khufu's pyramid is the largest of the three and held the record for the tallest building on earth for 3,800 years. Your guide walks you through the site and explains what each structure was built to do.

After Giza, you see the Great Sphinx, carved directly from bedrock in the same era, its lion body carved to show the king's power. Then lunch happens before you head to the GEM Grand Egyptian Museum, the Middle East's newest major museum, which houses antiquities spanning from the Predynastic period through the Greco-Roman era in a neo-classical building in the heart of Cairo. The collection is vast enough that you'll see only a fraction, but your guide picks the pieces that matter most.

The day ends at Khan el-Khalili Bazaar, Cairo's famous market, where you have time to walk and shop before the shared transfer takes you back to the airport for the flight home.
