The experience

The day starts before dawn. A driver picks you up from your hotel in Hurghada, Makadi Bay, El Gouna or Sahl Hashish around 4:30am and takes you to the airport for your flight to Cairo. Once you land, an Egyptology guide meets you outside the terminal to lead the rest of the day. The early start is what fits everything (flights, museum, pyramids, temples and papyrus institute) into a single trip back to Hurghada by evening.

At the Egyptian Museum you spend two hours with your guide, who walks you through the collection and explains the artifacts. You'll see the golden mask of Tutankhamun and learn how ancient Egyptians preserved their history. After the museum, lunch comes at a local Cairo restaurant (you choose what to order and pay for drinks separately). Then you head to Giza, where you stand under the shadow of the Great Pyramid and walk to a high point to see all three pyramids at once. The Valley Temple comes next. Your guide explains the mummification process and how the ancient Egyptians prepared their dead for the afterlife.

The papyrus institute is where you see how the first paper in the world was made and get to write your own name in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. A perfume salon rounds out the afternoon before your driver takes you back to Cairo Airport for the return flight. You arrive back in Hurghada and get driven to your hotel, ending a full day of sightseeing without arranging any of the logistics yourself.
