The experience
Two days means you leave Hurghada in the morning and return by evening on day two, which rules out lingering anywhere but makes it possible to see four major sites across two cities without splitting your stay. The itinerary opens at the Giza Pyramids (Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinus), and the Sphinx, where your guide walks you through the Valley Temple of Chephren. Lunch follows at a local Cairo restaurant, then the Egyptian Museum, which holds over 250,000 artifacts spanning 5,000 years, including the Tutankhamen collection of gold and jewelry sealed in his tomb for 3,500 years before excavation in the 1920s.
The evening takes you through Khan El-Khalili, Cairo's old bazaar in the Islamic quarter, before you fly to Luxor and transfer to your hotel for the night. Day two starts with breakfast at the hotel, then a private vehicle carries you across the West Bank of the Nile to the Valley of the Kings, where you enter three tombs, Hatshepsut temple at El Deir El Bahary, built for Egypt's only female pharaoh, and the Colossi of Memnon, two colossal statues of Amenhotep III. After lunch you cross to the East Bank to visit Luxor Temple and Karnak, the largest place of worship ever built. A four-hour drive in a private air-conditioned vehicle returns you to Hurghada by evening.
Your guide speaks English, French, German or Dutch and travels with you the whole way. Hotel pickup in Hurghada or Gouna is included, as are all flights, transfers, lunch both days, bottled water and breakfast at the Sonesta St George Hotel in Luxor. The tour is wheelchair accessible and suitable for all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or pregnancy.
