The experience

The tour starts at Agoyán Waterfall, 7 km from town, where you walk through tunnels carved into the rock with water cascading around you. From there the route follows the old path along the Pastaza River to a viewpoint, then continues to Rio Blanco, where optional adventure activities (a glass bridge, a Tibetan bridge, a zip line) sit alongside the main road if you want to add them. The cable car to Bride's Veil Waterfall costs $2 and takes you across the canyon, or you can walk to the viewpoint instead.

Pailón del Diablo, the centerpiece waterfall, sits 17 km from Baños at Rio Verde. You choose between a short trail (30 minutes round trip, $4) that reaches the base, or a long trail (one hour round trip, $5) that shows you the waterfall from above. The force of the water and the suspension bridges let you feel the raw power of the Amazon foothills up close. The entrance to Rio Verde costs $1.

The final stop is Casa del Árbol on the Runtun route, where the End of the World Swing hangs you out over the valley with Tungurahua Volcano filling the view. The swing itself is free. If you want the nearby Fantasias de Volar extreme swing (a 70-meter pendulum) or the Diamante Walkway glass platform, those are separate paid activities. The whole day runs about five hours from start to finish, and the guide speaks both English and Spanish.
