The experience

You start with a safety briefing, then take the wheel of your own buggy and drive through local villages, countryside roads and tropical landscape. This is not a guided tour where someone else drives. The route passes through the real Dominican Republic, not just resort areas. Along the way you'll stop at a natural cenote (water cave) for a swim in clear freshwater, then continue to Macao Beach, one of Punta Cana's main beaches, where you have time to swim, take photos or just sit on the sand.

After the buggy portion, you'll eat an authentic Dominican meal. The operator includes this so you taste local flavors and learn about the country's food culture. Then it's on to the boat: you board a catamaran and cruise the turquoise Caribbean waters with music, drinks and snacks onboard. Depending on sea conditions, you may get to swim, snorkel or float in a natural pool. The whole day runs about eight hours from pickup to drop-off.

Round-trip transportation from your hotel is included, along with helmet use, snorkelling gear, unlimited national drinks and tropical fruits, and the boat's entertainment. The guide is live and speaks your language. You must be at least 18 to drive the buggy. Children from age 11 can ride as passengers. The experience suits all fitness levels, though it's not recommended for anyone with spinal injuries, pregnancy, or cardiovascular concerns.
