The experience

You start with a safari truck ride to Round Mountain, a short stop where the views open across the Caribbean Sea and two lagoons, Limón and Redonda. There's time to use the swings and photograph the landscape before moving into the park itself. Los Haitises is the draw: mangrove channels you navigate by boat, caves with Taíno indigenous paintings that tell the history of the Dominican Republic, and the tropical birds and wildlife the ecosystem holds. The park's lush forests and coastal landscapes are the same ones that appeared in Jurassic Park.

After the caves and mangroves, you head to Yanigua Waterfall, a quieter natural site surrounded by vegetation. You swim in the waterfall's cool water, then experience a traditional mud bath before settling into an outdoor lunch in the natural setting. The whole day runs eight hours from pickup to return, with soda and bottled water provided throughout.
