The Experience

The day starts with a bus ride from your hotel in Punta Cana to Las Cañitas, an hour along the new coastal road through countryside and the Anamuya range. You board a luxury catamaran there with unlimited drinks on board, then head toward Samaná. A safari truck takes you up the mountain, and from there you ride horseback for 30 minutes through lush vegetation — coffee plants, cocoa, tropical fruit — to reach El Limón Waterfall. The waterfall drops 120 feet into a pool where you can swim after lunch at a typical ranch nearby.

After the waterfall, you return to the catamaran at Samaná and sail across the bay to Bacardi Island. You get free time to swim and walk the island before the return journey to Punta Cana. The route and stops are set, so the timing holds together without you arranging transport between each leg. If you're traveling between mid-January and late March, whale watching at Samaná Bay replaces the Bacardi Island stop.
