The experience

The boat docks at Amber Cove and you have a free afternoon: most of it still ahead of you. Port pickup takes you 15 minutes inland to the home base in Maimon, where you gear up, get safety instructions and mount your quad. From there the ride rolls through the village of Maimon toward the Atlantic coastline, passing locals on donkeys, wild turkeys crossing the road, and people waving from their yards. You stop for a photo of your cruise ship framed in the distance before heading deeper into the countryside.

The route turns onto back-country dirt farm roads where you'll pass a working cigar rolling shack: a real stop, not a tourist version. There you learn how cigars are made, sample local organic hot chocolate and coffee, and taste Mamajuana, a local herbal drink. The pace is built around what you can see and do, not just distance covered. After the inland section, the ride heads back to the beach for an authentic Dominican lunch, time to swim if you want it, and the ride back to port includes local rum drinks and water.
