You start at Old Town Square, walk across Charles Bridge with time to make a wish at the St. John of Nepomuk statue, take a 45-minute river cruise with refreshments, then climb through Kampa Island and Malá Strana to Prague Castle. You'll see St. Vitus Cathedral, Golden Lane, St. Nicholas Church, and the Lobkowicz Palace, with a local guide handling the history and timing so you don't have to.
So you're standing in front of the Old Town Hall watching the Astronomical Clock, and your guide is already pointing out the Jan Hus Memorial and the Kinsky Palace around Prague Old Town Square — and yeah, it's crowded, but that's kind of the point. You're in the oldest part of the city, and everything around you has been here for centuries. From there you walk to the Clementinum, then down to the Old Town Bridge Tower, this gorgeous gothic structure that marks where Charles Bridge actually begins. The bridge itself is lined with baroque statues, and there's this whole ritual about touching the St. John of Nepomuk statue to make a wish — everyone does it, so the bronze is worn smooth.
Then you board the river cruise. Forty-five minutes on the water, moving through Devil's Channel with the guide pointing things out and refreshments in hand. It's the kind of pace that lets you actually see the city instead of just rushing through it. When you dock, you're on the other side now, in the Lesser Quarter, and the walk up to Prague Castle takes you through Kampa Island and Malá Strana — narrow streets, aristocratic palaces, the kind of place where you stop at the John Lennon Wall and take a photo because it's there and it matters. You'll cross a tiny bridge over the Devil's stream, wait for a tram, and then you're climbing toward the castle itself.
Prague Castle is genuinely massive — the biggest castle complex in the world, and it took a thousand years to build. You see St. Vitus Cathedral, where Charles IV is buried and where the Bohemian Crown Jewels are locked in a hidden room. Golden Lane is next, those tiny bright houses built in the 16th century for Rudolf II's guards, now painted in yellows and pinks and blues. There's the Lobkowicz Palace, St. George's Basilica, the powder tower where they kept gunpowder. St. Nicholas Church in the Lesser Town is baroque and enormous — they call it the greatest example of Baroque Prague. By the time you cross Charles Bridge again on the way back, you've covered the left bank of the river and most of what makes Prague actually Prague, and you haven't had to figure out the tram system or book five separate tickets.
