The PADI Discover Scuba Dive is a three-hour introduction to scuba at Dive Bus reef in Curaçao, taught by a live PADI instructor in English or Dutch. You learn equipment and safety in a shoreside classroom, practice basic skills in shallow water, then make an open water dive on the reef that lasts up to an hour. All gear and course materials are included.

The experience

What does it feel like to breathe underwater? The PADI Discover Scuba Dive answers that question in one morning. Your instructor walks you through the equipment, basic skills and safety in an open-air classroom using the PADI Discover Scuba Dive Participant Guide, then gears you up and leads you into the shallow bay. Most people find breathing through the regulator easier than snorkeling. Once you're comfortable, you head straight out to the reef for your open water dive: up to an hour of exploring the hundreds of fish and corals at Dive Bus reef.

The whole experience takes three hours, though divers often say the underwater time feels like five minutes. You use full SCUBA equipment throughout, and every piece comes with the booking. The Dive Bus reef sits close enough to shore that the walk into the water is short, which means less time gearing up and more time diving. Children from age 10 can join. The operator asks that you complete a medical questionnaire before booking to rule out any cardiovascular concerns that would need a doctor's clearance.
