The Experience

From there the route runs along Caracasbaai Beach past local restaurants, then climbs to Fort Beekenburg—you park the scooters at the base and walk up to see some of the island's most dramatic vistas. Tug Boat Beach is the third stop and one of the island's most popular dive spots. A sunken wreck sits only a few meters offshore, surrounded by corals and fish, and the beach also hosts a dog shelter. Next comes the Quarantine House, a structure from the 18th century that served the same purpose then as it does in the modern sense now. The final stop is Directeursbaai, a beach suited for snorkeling and fishing with views that justify the ride there. The whole experience runs about two hours, which is long enough to feel like a real journey but short enough to fit into a morning or afternoon without eating your whole day.

You'll need closed-toe shoes and a valid ID or driver's license if you're 18 or older. The minimum age to operate an eScooter is 14, and the minimum height is 1.55 meters (5 feet). If you want to bring someone younger—as young as five—they can ride as a passenger on the double-seat option, which means one vehicle for two people at the two-person price. Arrive 15 minutes early for the pre-tour instruction, which covers how to handle the scooter before you leave the starting point. The maximum weight per scooter is 130 kilograms (286 pounds).
