The Experience

The day starts with pickup from your Zagreb hotel. Your guide drives you south through Croatia in a private minivan, and the route builds toward Plitvice Lakes—the country's most famous national park and the only Croatian site on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The park sits where the Korana river rises, surrounded by dense forests of beech, fir and spruce, and the 16 small lakes that give it its name are connected by waterfalls formed over centuries as travertine, a special limestone, accumulated in the water.

Once inside the park, you move through it by the means the operator built for visitors: electric boats glide silently across the lakes, and a panoramic electric train carries you along the upper paths without engine noise or fumes. You walk the network of boardwalks and forest trails that link the waterfalls and rocky lake shores—the paths are built so that even steep terrain stays accessible. The park holds caves, springs, and flowering meadows; brown bears live in the protected forests, though sightings are rare. The water changes with the season: spring brings blooming flowers and fresh green, autumn reflects riot colors, and winter freezes the waterfalls and loads the trees with snow.
