You walk through Diocletian's Palace from the cellars up to Peristyle Square, learning which rooms and corridors appeared in Game of Thrones while your licensed English guide explains the Roman history underneath. You see the Golden Gates, cross Pjaca's main square, and finish at Republic Square overlooking the harbor. The tour includes pictures of filming locations and scenes from the series, so you leave with a record of where things were shot.
The tour starts at the Brass Gates on the Riva Promenade, next to restaurant Gentile, where your guide meets you before the palace opens to the crowds. From there you move straight into the cellars of Diocletian's Palace — the underground chambers that held supplies for the Roman emperor and later became the dungeons of Meereen in Game of Thrones. It's cool down there, and the stone walls are thick enough that you can feel the weight of 1,700 years. Your guide points out which corners the crew used for filming, and you start to see how the same space works as both history and fiction.
Then you climb up to Peristyle Square, the actual heart of the palace, where ancient columns ring an open courtyard and locals cut through on their way to lunch. This is where the tour of Split's highlights really opens up — you're standing in a space that's been continuously lived in since the fourth century, and it's also where scenes were shot. The guide walks you through the surrounding streets, showing you how the architecture that made sense for Roman defense also made sense for a medieval fantasy city. You see the Golden Gates next, another entrance to the palace, and hear about the engineering that kept it standing and the angles that made it work on camera.
After the palace, the route moves to Pjaca, Split's main square, where cafes spill onto the pavement and the City Clock sits as a landmark everyone uses to meet. It's busy and lived-in, nothing like a museum. Then you finish at Prokurative — Republic Square — a neoclassical square that looks out over the harbor, where the tour ends and you can ask questions or just sit with a coffee and watch the water. The whole thing takes around three hours, and you're walking the whole time, but it's on flat ground through streets you'd want to wander anyway.

Is this one for you?Book this if you want to see Diocletian's Palace and Split's main squares without figuring out the route yourself, and you're curious about how the same streets work as both ancient Roman architecture and a fantasy city. The guide does the history and the filming locations at once, so you're not choosing between them.
