The experience
You start with a short transfer from town to the kayaking base, where your guide runs through a safety briefing and shows you the sit-in kayak with rudder and paddle. The archipelago between Korcula and Lumbarda sits in shallow, protected water: the kind of place where you can see the seabed through turquoise water and paddle directly over a prehistoric archaeological site. Your guide steers the route around two islets, usually, though weather and the group's fitness level can shift which ones you reach.
The stops themselves are the point. At the monastery islet you wade ashore to see the 14th-century Franciscan ruins. At another you can walk among the Roman quarries where stone was cut two thousand years ago. Between the paddles there is time to swim and snorkel in water clear enough that the seabed is visible. The guide does more than point: he tells the history of each place (the trade routes, the stone, the monks), so the landscape becomes a story you are paddling through, not just scenery passing by.
Halfway through, you pull onto a beach for a break with traditional local pastry and a glass of liqueur, the kind of thing you would not find on a standard lunch menu. The whole outing runs about four and a half hours from pickup to return, which is long enough to cover real distance and see multiple sites without the day becoming a slog. Bring at least a liter and a half of water, quick-drying clothes, sunscreen and solid water shoes. A hat helps, and a towel is essential.

How much paddling experience do I need before I can book this kayak?
No prior kayaking experience is required. The guide gives a safety briefing and introduction to the kayak and gear before you set out, and the sit-in kayak with rudder is stable and easy to handle for beginners with moderate fitness.
What happens if the weather turns bad on the day of my kayak?
The guide chooses which two islets to visit based on weather conditions and the group's fitness level, so the route can shift, but the paddle still runs unless conditions make it unsafe.
Are there stops where I can actually get out and walk around?
Yes, there are usually two stops on small islets: one at a 14th-century Franciscan monastery where you can wade ashore and explore the ruins, and another where you can walk among Roman quarries that date back to ancient times.
What is included in the tasting break during the kayak?
The break includes traditional local sweets and a glass of liqueur, served on one of the islets while you rest between paddles.
