The Experience
You're standing in Tatinja Bay with a paddle in your hand, and you realize this isn't going to feel like a tour group. Boris and Ivka run Spirit of Korkyra themselves — no franchise, no script — and the ten-person limit means the pace shifts around whoever showed up that morning. The hotel pickup happens 15 to 20 minutes before you leave, and by the time you're fitted into a sit-in kayak with a life jacket and a dry bag, you're already moving toward Vrnik, the first of three small islands facing Lumbarda.
Vrnik's limestone quarries are still worked today, centuries after the first blocks came out of the ground, and you walk through the village hearing the stories locals actually tell each other, not the ones written for tourists. Then Badija — a 15th-century Franciscan monastery with a past that's turbulent enough to matter, and deer that wander the grounds because nobody's fenced them in. The paddling itself is gentle; you're on the water maybe two hours total, and the rest of the day spreads across walking, swimming, and sitting still. Gubavac is the quiet one, the island that taxi boats and large groups never reach, and that's where you taste the Grk — a white wine from the family's own production in Lumbarda — alongside Klašun pastries made from a recipe that's been in the family long enough that nobody remembers when it started. Nothing store-bought, nothing generic.
The whole thing takes about half a day, and you're back with time to spare before dinner. What you bring matters more than what you wear: a t-shirt or Lycra, shorts that can dry, shoes that won't mind salt water, a hat, sunglasses, a towel, your swimsuit, and at least 1.5 liters of water per person. The tour adjusts to who's paddling that day — if someone's slower, you slow down; if the group wants to linger on Gubavac, you linger — so the experience isn't fixed the way bigger operations run it.

How long is the actual paddling?
Around 2 hours. The rest of the half-day is spent exploring on land, swimming, and relaxing on the islands.
What's included in the tour?
Hotel pickup, kayak (single or double sit-in), paddle, life jacket, dry bag, spray skirt, a glass of Grk wine, homemade Klašun pastries, and sage juice for kids.
Is Gubavac really not visited by other tour groups?
Yes. Taxi boats and large group tours don't reach it, so it stays quieter than the other islands on the route.
What should I bring?
A t-shirt or Lycra, shorts, wet-friendly shoes like flip-flops or water shoes, a hat, sunglasses, a towel, swimsuit, and at least 1.5 liters of water per person.
Do I need kayaking experience?
No. A safety briefing and short paddling lesson are included if you're new to it.
How many people go on each tour?
Maximum 10 guests, which keeps the group small and allows the pace to adjust to who's paddling that day.
What time does pickup happen?
15 to 20 minutes before the tour departs from Tatinja Bay, your starting point.
Is the Grk wine really homemade by the family?
Yes. It's produced by the family in Lumbarda, and the Klašun pastries follow a traditional family recipe as well.
