Snorkeling in Dubrovnik: Sunset Kayak from Pile Bay
Paddle past city walls, then dive into a sea cave
Sea kayaking and snorkeling activity in Dubrovnik where you paddle from Pile bay around Lokrum island to Betina cave for a snorkeling break, with a professional guide, full kayak and snorkeling gear, water and wine included. Choose between a 3-hour or 2-hour sunset departure; arrive 15 minutes early so you're paddling by start time. Minimum group size is 6 people.
The Experience
You meet your guide at the Pile local bus stop (Brsalje 8) and get fitted with a kayak, paddle and snorkeling mask. The paddle starts from Pile bay, moving past the city's forts and walls as you head toward Lokrum island. The route crosses open Adriatic water, so you're handling the kayak the whole way—not watching from a boat. A waterproof barrel keeps your belongings dry during the paddle.
The snorkeling break happens at Betina cave, where you'll enter the water with your mask and gear. After time in the cave, you paddle back to Pile bay to finish. A glass of wine and bottled water come with the activity. The full outing takes either 2 or 3 hours depending on which option you book; both are sunset departures.
This activity requires a high level of physical fitness and is not recommended for non-swimmers, people with seasickness, spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health. You need to be at least 18 years old. The tour runs only if at least 6 people are booked; if numbers fall short after confirmation, you'll get an alternative time or a full refund. A strict 24-hour cancellation policy applies—no refunds within 24 hours of departure, regardless of reason.

Is this one for you? You're comfortable in the water and looking for a hands-on activity where you control the kayak yourself—not a passive boat ride. The paddle demands real fitness and swimming ability, so it suits people who want to work for the view rather than sit and watch it pass.

What's the difference between the 2-hour and 3-hour snorkeling option in Dubrovnik?
Both options follow the same route from Pile bay past the old town and Lokrum island to Betina cave for snorkeling. The 3-hour version gives you more time on the water and at the cave; the 2-hour option is a faster version of the same paddle and snorkel.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer to snorkel at Betina cave?
The activity is not recommended for non-swimmers. You'll be paddling a kayak in open water and entering the sea to snorkel, so you need to be comfortable in the water and have a high level of physical fitness.
What happens if I arrive late to the Pile bay meeting point?
You need to arrive 15 minutes before the advertised start time so you're in the kayak and paddling by the time the tour officially begins. If you arrive after the group has launched, you'll miss the departure.
Is Lokrum island included as a stop on the snorkeling paddle?
The route passes by Lokrum island on the way to Betina cave, but you don't stop on the island itself. The snorkeling break takes place at Betina cave.
What gear and supplies are included in the snorkeling activity?
The price includes a professional guide, kayak and paddle, snorkeling mask, waterproof barrel for your belongings, bottled water and a glass of wine.
What's the minimum group size for this Dubrovnik snorkeling paddle?
A minimum of 6 people is required for the tour to run. If fewer than 6 are booked after confirmation, the operator will offer you an alternative departure time or a full refund.
