Ziplining in San Jose: 9 cables over Carara canopy
You zip over nine cables strung through the forest canopy, not a platform or a tower.
Canopy ziplining from San Jose takes you by van to Carara Adventure Park, where you clip into nine cables that run through the Pacific forest. A stop at Tarcoles River Bridge lets you spot crocodiles in the water before you reach the zipline. After you finish the cables, fresh fruit and the return drive to your hotel are included.

The experience
The van picks you up from your accommodation in San Jose and heads toward the coast. On the way, you stop at Tarcoles River Bridge to watch for crocodiles in the river below. Bring a camera. Then you arrive at Carara Adventure Park, where the guides fit you with harness and helmet and walk you through the setup on the first cable before you clip in.
You work through nine cables that cross the canopy at different heights and angles. The guides stay with you on each one, checking your setup and your grip. If you want more intensity, you can add the Tarzan Swing at the desk before you start: a pendulum drop from one of the cables that swings you out over the forest. If you prefer to keep your hands on the cable the whole way, you can do that instead. The pace is yours. Nobody rushes the line behind you.
When you finish the cables, the guides serve fresh fruit. Then the van takes you back to your hotel. The whole outing runs about six hours from pickup to dropoff. The operator holds credentials from Costa Rica's Tourism Board and carries private insurance beyond the mandatory coverage.
