The Experience

You leave San Jose in the morning and spend 90 minutes driving toward the Central Pacific coast, passing through Herradura and Orotina. The route climbs through mountain views and opens toward the ocean. Once you arrive at Vista Los Suenos Adventure Park, you have the day to complete two activities from the menu: zipline with ocean views, ATV riding through rainforest with waterfalls and lookout points, surfing lessons at Jaco Beach, horseback riding to a natural pool, or a chocolate experience tour. The park is set up so you can move between activities without long waits, and a bilingual guide stays with your group throughout.

The ATV option takes you off-road through the rainforest with swimming stops at waterfalls; if you choose it, bring swimwear and know that you must be at least 18 to drive (a credit card hold of $1,000 minimum is required as a deposit, fully refundable, or you can buy $25 insurance per vehicle instead). The zipline runs across canopy with views toward the ocean. Surfing lessons happen at Jaco Beach and include instruction in the water. The horseback ride leads to a natural pool where you can swim. The chocolate tour walks you through how cacao becomes chocolate. Between activities, you eat a buffet lunch at the Jungle Restaurant with natural drinks, dessert and coffee; fruit and water are available throughout the day.

The full day ends around 6 p.m. when you return to San Jose. You must tell the operator which two activities you want when you book, or at the latest 24 hours before the tour time; if that information doesn't arrive, you'll only be able to do whatever is available when you show up. The maximum weight limit is 260 pounds. Minimum age to join is 4 years old (though ATV driving requires 18). The tour runs rain or shine with no refunds for weather or traffic delays.
