Eight suspension bridges strung across the canopy, the widest in Costa Rica.

Ziplining and hanging bridges in the Monteverde Cloud Forest combine flight through the treetops with hiking on flat, well-maintained trails and a stop at the butterfly garden. The experience includes roundtrip transportation from your hotel, entry to all three sites, and a professional local guide in English or Spanish. Four hours total. Children from age 4 are welcome.

The experience

You arrive at the Monteverde Cloud Forest park and start on the suspension bridge system: eight bridges connected by nature trails, spanning 1.9 miles through the canopy. The bridges range from 150 to 500 feet in length and hang at heights between 36 and 180 feet above the forest floor. At nearly 5 feet wide, they are the sturdiest in Costa Rica, built for safety but designed to let you move through the treetops the way the birds do. The trails themselves are flat and well-maintained, not muddy or strenuous, so the focus stays on what you see: native wildlife moving through the vegetation, the layered structure of the cloud forest, and the views from heights most visitors never reach.

After the bridges, you move to the ziplines. These let you fly between points in the canopy rather than walk, giving a different angle on the same forest. Then the day ends at the butterfly garden, where you can watch the insects up close before heading back to your hotel. A professional local guide leads the whole sequence and points out animals and plants along the way. The driver handles the roundtrip transport, so you do not need a rental car or directions.
