The experience

The park sits at the top of the volcano, so you're standing at the edge of something genuinely active. On days when the mist clears (and that's the gamble, since clouds roll in fast up here). You see the sulfuric lake, the fumaroles releasing steam and gas from the inner cone, and on the clearer rim you can spot other volcanoes in the distance: Barva, Chompipe, Turu. The air smells sharp and mineral. New safety features have been added to the viewing areas in case of heavy volcanic activity, which means you're protected but also reminded that this is a working volcano, not a monument.
