The experience

Eight hanging bridges make up the trail through Selvatura Park's canopy. Each bridge ranges from 170 feet to 560 feet long and sits 5 feet wide, engineered to the standards of Costa Rica's College of Architects and Engineers. You walk at your own pace across 1.9 miles of trails, stopping to observe the cloud forest at different heights (the understory, mid-canopy and emergent layer), where the biodiversity shifts as you climb. The endemic species here do not appear anywhere else on earth.

A guide leads the experience and points out the flora and fauna as you move through the forest. Hotel pickup from Monteverde is included, so you do not need your own transport. The walkways suit all ages and fitness levels, though they are not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or during pregnancy. Wear closed shoes, bring a rain jacket and water, and plan for about two hours on the bridges themselves.
