Step-by-step itinerary
Birdwatching and photography tour
- Choose preferred reserve or farm
- Explore selected reserve or farm
- Spot and photograph birds and wildlife
The experience
You arrive in Monteverde with a free afternoon or morning and no way to explore the reserves on your own. This tour solves that: a guide who knows where the birds are meets you and asks what you came to see. Based on your targets, you head to either Curi Cancha Reserve or Monte Verde Reserve, not both, just the one that matches what you're after. The guide brings a field guide and an HD telescope so you can actually see and photograph the birds instead of squinting at shapes in the canopy.
The route stays flexible because the birds don't follow a schedule. You explore as much as the 5 hours allows, moving through whichever reserve holds your lifers. The terrain and pace suit all fitness levels, so you're not scrambling up steep trails or racing between stops. A guide in English or Spanish keeps the identification and photography tips coming as you move through the forest.
Transportation from your hotel costs extra (round-trip $24 for one or two people, $10 per person for groups of three or more), and reserve entry fees are separate: $20 for adults at Curi Cancha, $29 at Monte Verde, with lower rates for residents and children. Public transportation options exist nearby if you want to arrange your own way there.
