The Experience

"Did you hear that?" That’s what our guide, Mariela, whispered as we paused under a tangle of mossy branches in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. I’d never heard a silence like that—soft, but alive. The air felt heavier than back home, almost sweet and cold on my skin. We’d started early, boots crunching on wet leaves, and I kept stopping to stare up at these trees vanishing into fog.
