Ride Through Jungle to a 65-Meter Waterfall & Swim Pool

You ride private jungle trails on a trained horse to reach La Fortuna Waterfall, a 65-meter drop into a natural pool. After a moderate hike down, you swim and rest before returning. Transport, entry, security gear and a certified guide are all included, so you only need to show up ready to ride.

4h

Step-by-step itinerary

  • Prepare for horseback ride
  • Ride through private trails
  • Observe wildlife on route
  • Dismount and change clothes
  • Hike down to waterfall
  • Swim in waterfall pools

The Experience

You're on a horse, moving through dense green, and the sound of water gets louder. La Fortuna Waterfall sits at the end of private jungle trails that wind through Costa Rica's Central Valley — no roads, just forest floor and the occasional toucan overhead. The horses are trained from young, which means they know the terrain and you can focus on what's around you instead of gripping the reins. Your guide is certified and knows where to stop, when to listen, and what birds are calling from the canopy.

The ride takes you deeper in, and then you dismount. There's a moderate hike down to the base of the waterfall — steps cut into the earth, handholds where the slope gets steep — and then the pool opens up in front of you. The waterfall is 65 meters, and it drops into water clear enough to swim in. You can change into a bathing suit at the top, take the hike down, and spend time in the pool before heading back. The whole day is private, meaning no other groups on the trail, no waiting at the entrance.

Transport is included, so you don't arrange your own way to the trailhead. Security equipment comes with the ride. The entrance fee to La Fortuna Waterfall is already paid. What you're doing is showing up, getting on a trained horse, and letting the guide handle the route, the timing, and the wildlife spotting — toucans, iguanas, parakeets, sloths if you're lucky.
