La Fortuna Waterfall and Chocolate Bonbons Class
You roast and grind the cocoa beans before shaping the bonbons.
A morning class in La Fortuna where you swim at the waterfall, tour an organic cocoa plantation, and make chocolate bonbons from beans you've roasted and ground yourself. The naturalist guide speaks English, Spanish or German; pickup is included, and children from age 1 are welcome. The full experience runs three to four hours.
Step-by-step itinerary
Waterfall visit and chocolate making
- Visit La Fortuna Waterfall
- Swim in pool at waterfall base
- Visit organic cocoa plantation
- See cocoa trees
- Experience grinding and roasting cocoa beans
- Make your own chocolate bonbons
The Experience
The tour starts at 8:30 am with a naturalist guide picking you up from your hotel. You head straight to La Fortuna Waterfall, where you swim in the pool at the base before moving on to the organic cocoa plantation. This is not a walk-through—you'll see the cocoa trees growing, then move into the hands-on part: grinding and roasting the beans yourself so you understand what goes into the chocolate before you shape it.
Once the beans are roasted and ground, you make your own bonbons. This is the core of the class—you're not watching a demonstration, you're doing the work. The guide walks you through the process, and you leave with what you've made. Private transportation is included throughout, and bottled water keeps you hydrated between the waterfall swim and the chocolate work.
