The experience

The rainforest walk starts on marked trails where your guide watches for movement in the canopy and the understory. Two and three-toed sloths move slowly enough that you can observe them without rushing past. The guide uses a telescope and binoculars to help you spot details (the shape of the claws, the way they grip branches) that you'd miss with the naked eye. Colorful poison frogs, birds and snakes appear on the same trails, and the guide explains what you're seeing as it happens.

After the walk, you move to the second section of the park for the tasting. Coffee, chocolate and sugarcane are the three crops, and your guide provides information about how each one grows, how it's processed and what it tastes like. This is not a rushed sampling. The guide walks you through the flavors and the stories behind them. The whole experience runs about three hours from start to finish, and transport is arranged for you.

The tour runs in English or Spanish with a live guide. Infants and small children can come along in a pram or stroller, and the trails and tasting are suitable for all fitness levels. Pickup is included in the booking.
