The experience

Your guide and driver pick you up from your hotel at 8 am and drive you to Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda, arriving in time for the 9:30 am feeding when the pandas are most active. You watch them eat bamboo and play together across a habitat designed with real bamboo trunks, then sit through a 20-minute video in the on-site theater about panda research and breeding programs. The base is home to nearly 50 giant pandas and red pandas, and entry is included in your tour price.

After lunch (which you arrange yourself at a restaurant your guide recommends), you head to Wide-and-Narrow Alleys to find the Panda Post Office, the only postal service in the world with giant pandas as its theme. You can buy stamps, postcards, albums, envelopes and toys, then have your postcards stamped with the panda logo and sent anywhere in the world using the office's own post code, 610088. From there, your guide takes you to Chunxi Road to photograph the largest Panda Sculpture, a 70-foot bronze work by artist Lawrence Argent. Your driver then returns you to your hotel, ending the tour.
