The day starts at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, where you watch pandas of all ages eating and playing together. You'll see baby pandas (pink and mouse-sized when born), and follow their growth into the 100-kilogram white-and-black adults the base is built to protect. Red pandas and swans also live on the grounds. The base is both a working research facility and a window into the breeding programs keeping the species alive.

After the pandas, the tour shifts to how Chengdu itself lives. People's Park is where locals spend afternoons: you'll sit in a traditional teahouse with a cup of tea, watch couples dancing, and join in games of mahjong or cards if you want. It's the city's most authentic rhythm, unhurried and social. From there, Jinli Ancient Street runs through old neighborhoods where you roam past local snacks and artifacts, and Wuhou Memorial Temple (a Qing Dynasty monastery beside the street) shows you locals lighting incense and praying. The temple and the street sit close together, so the transition between them is seamless.

Your guide handles the route and timing. Lunch is included during the day. The tour runs eight hours total, which leaves the evening open if you want to catch a Sichuan Opera performance: the city's famous Bianlian (face-changing) acts and fire-spitting are popular additions to a Chengdu night.
