The experience
You'll spend 90 minutes learning from Master Zeng, who teaches the class in English and covers three distinct practices: Baduanjin (a traditional Chinese Qigong), Chen-style Tai Chi, and basic martial arts movements. The focus is on health and wellness rather than combat. You'll pick up movements designed to promote physical wellbeing and learn Taoist principles that apply long after you leave Hangzhou. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. The instructor will guide you through each form step by step.
A tea break sits in the middle of the session, where you'll drink seasonal tea and eat complimentary fruit and snacks while Master Zeng explains the wellness philosophy behind what you've learned. The class runs in Room 602 of Yunchao Center Building T2 in Xihu District, reachable by taxi (ask the driver for 云潮中心T2) or by subway to Fenghuaxi Road station, then a 20-minute walk. Both indoor and outdoor options are available depending on the weather that day.
The space is fully wheelchair accessible, and the class suits all fitness levels: families bring children, and advanced practitioners also join. If you're arriving with a free afternoon or want to try something beyond the usual sightseeing, this gives you a concrete skill and a window into how Chinese martial arts connect to everyday health.
What’s included
- Guided instruction from Master Zeng in English.
- complimentary seasonal tea, fresh fruit and snacks during the break.
- choice of indoor or outdoor setting based on weather conditions.
