The experience
The day starts at Petrohué Waterfalls, where you walk two trails through the park's old-growth forest. The Enamorados and Saltos trails pass centennial Coigues, Mañios, and Tepu trees. Your guide explains the ecosystem and the role of protected areas in Patagonia. The Saltos trail ends at the Petrohué River waterfalls, where the force of the water is the postcard moment of the Los Lagos Region.
From there, the group heads to Osorno Volcano, reaching the ski center at 1,254 meters above sea level. You can take the chair lift for views across Lake Llanquihue, clear days reveal the Pacific Ocean, or walk on the volcanic sand at your own pace. Lunch happens during the stay at the volcano, so you eat with the views. The return to Puerto Varas closes the loop by late afternoon.
The tour runs as a shared exploration with a maximum of 14 people per vehicle, which means you travel with other passengers but in a group small enough that the guide can answer questions and the van stays comfortable. Appetizers, snacks, lunch, dessert, coffee, tea, and drinks (beer, pisco sour, soft drinks, wine) are all included; park entry is included; pickup from Puerto Varas is included. You bring a camera with space on the memory card.
