The experience

You start on Granville Island and ride an ebike to Strathcona, one of Vancouver's oldest neighborhoods and the historic heart of the city's Black community. The guide walks you through the area's legacy: the vibrant culture that once thrived there, the history of Jimi Hendrix who spent part of his childhood in nearby neighborhoods, and the contributions of Black residents who shaped the community. The bluetooth helmet means you hear the guide's voice as you move between stops instead of gathering in a cluster, so the pace stays steady and the route itself becomes part of the story.

You stop at a local Black-owned cooperative for Caribbean patties: authentic flavors and a real meal, not a tasting. From there the route opens up: you ride the Stanley Park seawall with views of the ocean and city skyline, then reach English Bay Beach, where the guide tells you about Joe Fortes, the lifeguard and community hero whose legacy shaped the beach's history. The ride covers ground without rushing. Three hours is enough to move between neighborhoods and actually stand in each one.
