The experience
Eight hours gets you through three distinct parts of the day. The morning starts on a bike through flat rural trails where you pass working rice paddies, farmland and Khmer villages. You stop at a wet market open from 6am to 11am to try local fruit and snacks, then visit a meditation center and Buddhist monastery before cycling across a manmade lake built during the Khmer Rouge era. A supported vehicle brings you back for lunch at a picnic hut on Tonle Bati Lake, where the breeze and local Khmer food break up the physical part of the tour.
Ta Prohm Temple, built in the late 12th and early 13th centuries by King Jayavarman VII, sits between the countryside cycling and the Killing Field visit. The temple was constructed as a place of worship for both Brahmans and Buddhists, and the stop gives context to the religious and cultural layers you've already seen in the villages and monastery.
The final section is the Choeung Ek Genocidal Center, where more than a million people were killed and buried by the Khmer Rouge regime between 1975 and 1979. An audio tour available in 14 languages guides you through the memorial. Hotel pickup and drop-off bookend the day, with the return transfer taking around an hour depending on traffic. Your English-speaking guide stays with you throughout, and drinking water plus local street food tastings are included alongside the lunch.

Is this one for you?Eight hours leaves room for another activity or meal in Phnom Penh before or after, but the return transfer alone takes around an hour, so plan accordingly if you're catching a flight or have an evening commitment. Children from age 9 can join, though the cycling portion requires moderate fitness and the Killing Field visit involves heavy historical content.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (13 to 15 years); Child (9 to 12 years). Children under 9 can't be included in the booking.
What is Ta Prohm Temple and why is it on this tour?
Ta Prohm Temple was built between the late 12th and early 13th centuries by King Jayavarman VII as a place of worship for both Brahmans and Buddhists. It sits on this tour as a bridge between the rural village cycling in the morning and the historical reckoning at the Killing Field in the afternoon, showing the religious and cultural continuity of Cambodia before the Khmer Rouge period.
Can I actually swim in the lake, or is it just a stop to look at?
Tonle Bati Lake is a place to refresh and swim during your lunch break at the local picnic hut. The lake itself was built as a manmade reservoir during the Khmer Rouge regime, so the swim is both a physical break and part of understanding the landscape's history.
What happens at the wet market in the morning?
The wet market opens from 6am to 11am and you have a short walk through it to see how local people buy and sell produce, fish and other goods. You get to try local fruits, snacks and desserts while you're there, giving you a taste of everyday Cambodian food and village life.
How does the audio tour at the Killing Field work?
Choeung Ek Genocidal Center provides an audio tour available in 14 languages that guides you through the memorial site. The tour documents the Khmer Rouge regime's rule from 1975 to 1979 and the historical context of the Cambodian Civil War that preceded it. The audio is included with your tour. Entrance fees and the audio device rental are separate.
Is this tour physically demanding?
The morning involves biking through flat rural trails, so you should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The cycling is through villages and paddy fields at a pace that allows stops at the market, monastery and lake. Children from age 9 are welcome on the tour.
