This is a guided bicycle tour of the Mekong Island countryside outside Phnom Penh, covering 25–30km of flat terrain through villages, fruit and vegetable plantations, and handicraft workshops, with hotel pickup, ferry crossing, English-speaking guide, bike and helmet, and a local lunch included. The tour runs 4 to 6 hours and departs at 7:30am; children from age 12 are welcome, and vegetarian meals are available on request. An e-bike can be rented for an additional fee if you prefer pedal assistance.

The Experience

A tuk-tuk or minivan picks you up from your Phnom Penh hotel at 7:30am and drives to the Cambodia Post Office—a French colonial building from 1895 in the old European district—or directly to the ferry. Once you cross the Mekong and land on the island, you saddle up and your guide briefs you on the route and what to expect. The cycling itself stays flat and manageable: you'll pass through villages, orchards growing cucumber, corn, ginger, lemongrass, papaya and banana, and stop at a local silk weaving workshop where artisans still work the looms by hand.

The route also takes you past a Buddhist pagoda—a chance to learn how Theravada Buddhism shapes daily life in Cambodia—and a bean curd drying operation where you can see how the product moves from workshop to market. These are working places, not museum stops. You'll cycle through rice paddies and past a natural lake dotted with lotus farms. The pace is leisurely enough that you can talk to people and take in the landscape without rushing.

Around midday you reach a floating restaurant on the water for a Cambodian lunch cooked by locals. Afterward, you cycle back to the ferry, board the minivan or tuk-tuk, and return to your hotel. The whole day—pickup, ferry, cycling, lunch, and drop-off—is arranged; you just show up at your accommodation in the morning. A Cannondale mountain bike and helmet are provided. If the standard pace feels too slow, an e-bike is available to rent for $15 per bike.
