The experience

The evening starts with pickup at your hotel in a private tuk-tuk, which takes you to the village performance space. You arrive in time for dinner and the show to begin: a four-course Cambodian set menu unfolds as the dancers take the stage. The menu runs through Banana Blossom Chicken Salad, Pumpkin & Carrot Soup, Grilled Chicken with Khmer Dressing, Fried Pork Sweet & Sour, Steamed Jasmine Rice, and finishes with Traditional Khmer Cake.

Five dances perform nightly on the stone stage. The Blessing Dance opens the evening, a ceremony performed for kings and official guests in the Angkor period. The Coconut Shells Dance follows, recreating a wedding celebration. The Mekhala Dance shows two characters in a story of rain defeating drought and storm. The Pailin Peacock Dance is a heritage performance from the Kolar ethnic people, gem specialists from the region. The Apsara Dance closes the show: the goddesses of dance, half-woman half-goddess, were originally performed at palace ceremonies and offering rituals in the Angkorian era, and thousands of them were carved into the walls of Angkor Wat Temple.

The whole experience runs two to three hours. After the final dance, the tuk-tuk driver returns you to your hotel. The stage sits surrounded by tropical flowers and water, recreating the setting of ancient Angkor artistry. A live guide is present throughout and speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French and two additional languages.
