The experience
The hike starts from Vidigal, where you meet your guide and travel by van or motorcycle taxi to the trailhead. The climb takes roughly 50 minutes, moving through the landscape while your guide explains the local history and ecology. No prior climbing experience is needed. The pace is moderate and the guide adjusts to the group's fitness level.
At the summit, you switch to rappelling gear. The guide walks you through the technique step by step, checking your harness and equipment before you descend. Abseiling down the rock face is the core of the activity. You control the speed, the guide manages the safety systems from above, and you get to see Rio spread out beneath you as you lower yourself. The guide photographs you during the descent and at the top, capturing angles you couldn't reach on your own.
The 360-degree view from the peak takes in the city, the bay, and the surrounding peaks. You have time to rest, take in the vista, and let the guide answer questions about what you're looking at. The descent by rappel takes the place of a second hike down, so the whole experience stays compact within the four-hour window.
Is this one for you?The van or motorcycle taxi from Vidigal to the trailhead means you don't need a car or a ride from someone staying in your hotel. You meet the guide and go from there, which works whether you're staying in the city or arriving by public transit.
