The Experience

We left Manaus just after sunrise, still kind of groggy, but the city faded quick and soon it was all tangled green. Our driver chatted about his childhood here — he pointed out a roadside fruit I’d never seen before (tasted a bit like sour apple). At Castanho Lake, our host was waiting by this long wooden canoe. No cover, just us and the river air. The boat ride was slow in that Amazon way — everything feels stretched out.
