The experience
The tour starts with pickup from your Manaus hotel and a drive to the port, where you board a private speed boat with comfortable armchairs. The boat heads down the Rio Negro toward the Meeting of the Waters, the natural phenomenon where the Rio Negro and Solimões run parallel for miles without mixing: a visible line between two different water colors and temperatures. After time to take in the sight, you visit the community of houseboats and see a staging of Pirarucu fishery before moving on to Janauary Ecological Park.
At the park you hike to Lake of the Victories Regias, a walk through the forest canopy where giant water lilies float on the water. Lunch happens here, and afterward the boat continues to the deeper river channels where you'll have time to swim and interact with the pink dolphins. These freshwater dolphins are curious and often approach swimmers, though the encounter is never guaranteed: the dolphins decide whether to come close. The final stop is an indigenous community where you'll watch traditional dances and rituals performed on site.
The whole day runs six to eight hours. Your guide travels with you throughout and explains the natural and cultural details as you move between stops. The boat returns you to the port and then to your hotel, completing the round-trip transfer included in the price.

What exactly is the Meeting of the Waters and why do the two rivers not mix?
The Meeting of the Waters is where the Rio Negro and the Solimões (the upper Amazon) flow side by side for several miles without blending. The two rivers have different temperatures, densities and speeds, which keeps them visibly separate. You can see a sharp line between the darker Rio Negro water and the lighter Solimões water as they run parallel.
Will I definitely see pink dolphins on this tour?
You'll have time in the water to swim and interact with pink dolphins, and they often approach swimmers, but the encounter is not guaranteed. The dolphins are wild and choose whether to come close. The tour includes the time and location where they're most likely to appear.
How long is the hike at Janauary Ecological Park?
The walk to Lake of the Victories Regias is a forest hike through the park, and lunch is served afterward at the park. The exact duration is not fixed, but it's part of a full day that runs six to eight hours total from pickup to drop-off.
Do I need to bring cash for anything on the day?
A small visitation fee for the Color of Roses Boat is paid in cash on the day of the tour. Lunch, water, the guide and all other services are included in the tour price.
