The experience
The day starts at Iguazu Falls with a one-mile trail that climbs past lookout points and a bridge where the panoramic view opens up fully. The falls themselves number around 275, distributed along the cliffs, and the trail reveals them gradually as you walk: the view changes at each balcony. After reaching the top by lift or stairs and taking pictures from the tower, your guide leads you to the square for a break before moving to the next site.
Bird Park sits in 16 hectares of Atlantic forest and opened in 1994. You walk through aviaries up to 45 feet tall in the middle of native forest, entering them to get close to the birds themselves. There are more than 130 species from South America and other continents. Children under 8 accompanied by a parent enter free. The trail is one-way and self-guided once you're inside, so you set your own pace through the forest.
Itaipu Dam sits on the Paraná River on the Brazil-Paraguay border. Built between 1975 and 1991, it produces 10% of Brazil's energy and is the world's number one clean energy production plant by output. At the visitors centre, you watch an 8-minute film with English subtitles, then board an open bus for a 70- to 90-minute tour around the plant with two stops for pictures. On rainy days, bring rain gear. Your guide stays with the group throughout.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish and Italian.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (6 to 11 years); Infant (under 6).
How many waterfalls will I see on the Iguazu Falls trail?
Around 275 waterfalls are distributed along the cliffs, though more than 70% are in Argentine territory. From the Brazilian side, you get the best panoramic view. The trail reveals them gradually as you walk upward, with the bridge offering the most complete vista before you reach the tower at the top.
Can I get close to the birds at Bird Park or just look at them from a distance?
Bird Park is designed for close contact. You walk through the aviaries themselves, entering the walk-through enclosures to get near the 130+ bird species. The forest setting and open aviaries let you see and photograph the birds up close without barriers between you and them.
What happens at Itaipu Dam during the tour?
You start at the visitors centre with an 8-minute film, then board an open bus for a 70- to 90-minute ride around the plant with two photo stops. The bus tour shows you the scale of the dam and its lake, which covers 1,350 square kilometres and stretches more than 100 miles along the Brazil-Paraguay border.
Is the Iguazu Falls trail difficult or steep?
The one-mile trail climbs past multiple lookout points and balconies, ending at a bridge and tower that you can reach by lift or stairs. Your guide walks with you the whole way, and the pace is described as no-rush, so you can stop for pictures and take in the view at each point.
What's included in the price and what do I need to arrange myself?
The tour includes fast-track entry to the Brazilian national park, entry to Bird Park, entry to Itaipu Dam, private transportation in an air-conditioned vehicle, your private guide, and hotel pickup and drop-off. You don't need to arrange transport or buy separate tickets for any of the three sites.
