Step-by-step itinerary
Curitiba historic and gastronomic tour
- Walk through Largo da Ordem
- Eat Arabic dish at Oriente Arab restaurant
- Have lunch at Bar do Alemão
- Taste Polish dessert in Pope's Grove
The experience
Largo da Ordem anchors the morning: the heart of Curitiba's historic center since the 18th century, home to the Third Order Church of São Francisco das Chagas and the old commercial district that shaped the city. From there the route moves through four restaurants, each one rooted in a specific immigrant community that settled in Curitiba and left its mark on the local table. You taste at each stop instead of watching from a distance, so the history arrives as flavor and aroma rather than as a story told about someone else's past.
Oriente Arab opens the meal with dishes tracing back to Syria, the restaurant itself founded in 1969 to bring Arab culture to the city. Bar do Alemão, sitting on the Largo da Ordem boardwalk since 1979, keeps the rustic atmosphere of a German tavern and serves the famous "Submarino" (a small stein of Steinhäger dipped into a full glass of beer) with the option to keep the cup and start a collection stamped with German regional coats of arms and Curitiba landmarks. The final stop lands in Pope John Paul II Forest, where a Polish dessert closes the day among three hundred Araucaria trees and the Polish Immigration Memorial.
Private transportation moves you between stops. A guide in Portuguese handles the route and the history. The whole tour runs four hours, which leaves room for the meal itself to unfold without rushing.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (7 to 12 years). Children under 7 can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What is Largo da Ordem and why does the tour start there?
Largo da Ordem is the historic center of Curitiba, home to the Third Order Church of São Francisco das Chagas, the oldest church in the city, and the site of intense commerce in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. The tour opens there because it is the heart of the city's immigrant history and the gateway to understanding how different communities shaped Curitiba's food culture.
Do I eat a full meal at each restaurant or just a tasting?
You taste at each restaurant (a course or a dish representing that cuisine) rather than a full meal at every stop. The progression moves from an Arab appetizer at Oriente Arab, to lunch at Bar do Alemão, to a Polish dessert in Pope John Paul II Forest.
What is the "Submarino" at Bar do Alemão?
The Submarino is a small stein of Steinhäger that you dip into a full glass of beer. Bar do Alemão lets you keep the cup and start a collection. Each one is stamped with images like German regional coats of arms or Curitiba landmarks.
