Sarajevo War Times Tour: Siege history with Tunnel entry
Step through the tunnel that saved Sarajevo and witness life beyond the siege lines
A half-day guided tour of Sarajevo's siege sites with an English-speaking guide, covering Sniper Alley, the frontline positions, and the War Tunnel with entry included in some options. Hotel pickup is provided for guests outside the Old Town, and the tour crosses the administrative boundary between the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republic of Srpska multiple times along the route to Mount Trebevic, illustrating one of the country's ongoing absurdities without requiring passports.
Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Sarajevo War History
- See Sniper Alley street
- Pass town's "other" side
- Cross imaginary entity borders
- View sniper positions
- Visit hotel ruins command center
- Enjoy panorama and defenders' cemetery
- Attend Bosnian War and Tunnel tour
The Experience
The tour opens at a vantage point overlooking Sarajevo, where the guide introduces the 1992-1995 siege and points out the defenders' cemetery visible from the fortress. From there you move through the city's divided geography: past Sniper Alley, the street where killings occurred during the bombardment, then into the neighborhoods on the "other side" during the war. The route itself becomes the lesson -- crossing back and forth across the invisible line that split the city four times as you head toward Mount Trebevic, a physical reminder of how arbitrary and absurd the division remains.
You'll see where snipers were positioned and the hotel ruins that once served as the main command center for the sieging army's first line. The War Tunnel, the underground passage that kept the city supplied during the blockade, is included on some options and comes with a short educational presentation about its role in the war. Throughout, the guide provides personal insights into what happened and how people are living now, three decades after the siege ended.
The tour runs three to four hours and includes bottled water, an air-conditioned vehicle, and WiFi on board. Hotel pickup is arranged for anyone staying outside the Old Town. You choose between a morning or afternoon departure, and the guide speaks English throughout.

Is this one for you?Choose the morning departure if you want to cover the sites before afternoon heat, or the afternoon tour if you prefer a later start. Either way, the fixed itinerary and included transport mean the siege's geography unfolds without you navigating the divided city yourself.
